What we have checked
- Who issues the card
- SafeWork NSW, after you finish the training The registered training organisation delivers the course; the card itself comes from SafeWork NSW.
- The advertised price may not be the whole price
- Some providers add the card issuing fee after the course Providers handle it inconsistently: some fold it into the advertised price, others bill it separately once you pass. Ask which before you book, because it is the most common unpleasant surprise on a white card.
- Lost card
- Replaced through Service NSW A replacement only helps if the card is still valid. If you have been out of construction for two years or more it is void, and you need the training again rather than a new card.
Still to check
- The exact issuing fee
- The exact replacement fee
True wherever you are
- Does it expire
- No expiry date, but it lapses The card carries no expiry date. The training stops being current after roughly two continuous years out of construction work, at which point it has to be done again. Confirm the rule with the regulator that issued your card.
- Does it work interstate
- Yes, recognised in every state and territory WorkSafe Tasmania states that a current and valid card from another jurisdiction removes the need for a Tasmanian one. The same mutual recognition applies across the country.
- What it costs
- There is no government fee. You pay a training provider, typically $99 to $200 This is the thing worth knowing: the regulator does not charge for a white card, so every price you see is a registered training organisation setting its own. The unit is identical whoever delivers it, and online delivery is often dearer than face to face for exactly the same qualification.
- How long the course takes
- About 5 to 6 hours Listed at around 6 hours in NSW and Victoria and 5 hours in Queensland. It must be delivered by a registered training organisation.
- Unit code
- CPCCWHS1001, previously CPCWHS1001 and CPCCOHS1001A Older cards show an older code and remain valid. The code on your card is not a sign it has expired.
The rest of your tickets
A white card is one of several you probably carry, each on its own clock. See which of yours lapses first, or register and we hold them all and chase the dates.
