Responsible Service of Alcohol
Responsible Service of Alcohol training is required before you can serve alcohol for pay, and every state runs its own scheme. The question that matters is whether yours travels: Queensland accepts a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment, while New South Wales and Victoria both require a bridging course first.
Each state runs its own scheme, with its own name, its own authority and its own fee. What you hold in one state is often no use in another.
Key facts
- How long it lasts: 5 years
- Searched about 8,100 times a month in Australia.
- Checked against the issuing authority on 2026-10-25.
True everywhere in Australia
- Does your RSA travel with you
- Usually not, and this is the question worth asking before you move Every state sets its own rules. Queensland is the most accommodating, New South Wales and Victoria both want you to do a bridging course before you can work there permanently, and a certificate that is fine in one state can be worthless in the next.

We know which body issues it in these states and what it is called there, but we have not yet read the fee and the rules at the source. Rather than copy a number from another website, these pages say what we know and link you to the authority.
Keeping track of it
This is one card. Most people carry four or five, each renewing on a different clock, and lose a shift when one quietly lapses. Work out which of yours runs out first, or register and we track every date and chase you before any of them turn red.
